The Discovering Our Experiences website is dedicated to the in-house publications of the project Discovering Our Experiences: Studies in Bilingual and ESL Education. Conducted from 1993 to 1997, the project was a university–public school research collaborative spanning two urban regions: the North Texas metroplex and East Texas. The articles on this site preserve archival material from the original volumes, which are included here in PDF form, along with updated essays and research papers. Also included are two volumes of children’s writings – Cuéntame una fábula and Cuéntame más fábulas, which further enrich the project’s record of collaborative, classroom-based inquiry. Together, they document a range of research-based collaborations among professors, teachers, administrators, and students. The series includes four themed volumes: Volume 1: Leadership for Change, which profiles administrators at the public school and state levels; Volume 2: Reflective Practice for Change, in which teachers share their teaching philosophies and innovations; Volume 3: Transforming Ourselves Through the Power of Mediated Instruction, which examines empowerment-oriented curricular models, including a sociocultural literacy framework; and Volume 4: Critical Knowledge Beyond the School: Teachers as the Ones-Who-Learn, which highlights collaboration between university researchers and teachers in the Funds of Knowledge for Teaching Project.
